Nurse Practitioner
Introduction to Nurse Practitioner
Medic 1 can provide nurses who have specialist skills, such as nurse practitioners. At events, their ability to prescribe medications and provide guidance to casualties on wound care etc can be invaluable. For example, suturing minor injuries at the events is often beneficial as it reduces the need of your event visitors & crew from having to spend time looking for a GP or attending a local hospital.
What skills do they have?
Depending on the requirement of your event the skills and specialist area of the Nurses can vary. This can be discussed with you during the risk assessment.

How can the unit work for you?
Nurses would typically be part of an event multidisciplinary team (MDT). They would work at events where it could be demonstrated that the event visitors or crews would benefit from specialist nursing input. There are many nursing specialities, however, the ability of Nurse Practitioners to prescribe some medications is particularly helpful for events spanning more than one day. In many cases, your event visitors and crews will not need to go to the GP and may remain at the event if a Prescribing Nurse where onsite.
